Look at those baby blues!

Who would have thought we would end up with a kid with blue eyes? Well, Piglet still has his blue eyes. I have heard they still could change up to a year but for now they are beautiful especially in this sleeper.

Piglet is now 8 months old. Actually, it was a few days ago but I was busy then. I am still busy now but I am going to blog and pretend I don't have mounds of packing and cleaning to do. This makes me happier.

He is sitting up although if he starts moving that big old head of his he falls over. He is doing a lot better though. He loves to roll around on the floor. I lay him down somewhere and pretty quickly he is 6 feet away. He is really motivated if some of his brothers' toys are lying around much to their chagrin. He has tried to get his legs under himself a few times so I guess he'll be crawling pretty soon.

He babbles a lot. He makes a lot of raspberries, "g" and "m" sounds, and any other noise he can come up with.

He loves to eat! He eats 5-6 jars of #2 baby food a day in addition to nursing 4 times a day. He is always concerned that he will starve to death at any moment.

He loves his brothers especially the test pilot. He just giggles when we pick him up from school.

His sleeping is much improved. He sleeps about 12 hours at night and usually 2 naps during the day. I am so glad we got to this point. It was a lot of work getting here.

He is a sweet baby that just loves to laugh. He craves attention and doesn't like being left alone to play. We love you Piglet!

Guess what I did this weekend?

I wish I could say that the Captain and I were spending a romantic weekend away together, but instead we spent a romantic weekend together painting and installing flooring. I did the painting and he did the flooring. Oh the romance! Actually, it's pretty fun working together.

I am just tired of painting ceilings. There are 7 ceilings with 2 coats each brings us to a total of 14 coats. I have painted 9 of the 14 coats (which leaves 5 done by the captain and a friend). We still need a 2nd on the the kitchen and dining room ceiling. Who knew your abs get so sore from painting ceilings? My neck is not achey at all. That's what most people ask me.

As of today, carpet is in and the captain finished the pergo floor in the living room. I forgot the camera today so I will post a picture later this week. It looks really good if I say so myself. I have the most talented husband in the world.

The bedrooms are completely ready to move in and I have moved most of the closet stuff over to the new house already. We plan to move in this weekend. Hard to believe I will spend next Sunday in our new house.

We don't think the kitchen and dining room walls will be painted before moving in. Just running out of time. This reminds me. As I am painting the kitchen ceiling, the captain says, "Hey I have an idea!" So I say, "Oh, you've decided to hire someone to paint the kitchen and dining room." He responds with, "So the Lord created a helper for Adam..." Ha! Ha! Back to work for me.

BTW- His idea was to take the family to CiCi's for dinner. Not the idea I wanted but a good one anyhow.

Learning from my children

Today as I was painting yet another ceiling this verse kept popping in my head. "Do everything without complaining..."-Philippians 2:14.

I have using a booklet called "Wise Words for Moms" to teach the test pilot some scriptural truths. (Thank you Bel for this book.) It takes situations that a child would encounter and it gives verses to discourage or "put off" that behavior and verses to encourage a positive behavior or a behavior to "put on."

Recently, we have using the complaing scenario to teach. Using Phil 2:14 to discourage complaining and I Thes. 5:16-18 about being thankful and joyful in all circumstances.

So today as I began to complain about painting another ceiling God used the teachings meant for my child to teach HIS CHILD a few things. I seemed to learn a lot more trying to teach my kids than I would other wise. It's one reason I keep teaching AWANA, through all the migraines. I get so much out of it spiritually myself. I need things pretty simple sometimes.

Thank you for reminding me to be joyful and thankful always. Thank you for this perfect house for us. Thank you that we are physically able to do all this work. Thank you that we (the captain and I) actually enjoy the labor and working together. I am thankful that the end is in sight.

PS- Everyone's cold is improving. So we are all back to work after a day off.

Good news and bad news

Good News: We have carpet. They finished up today about 1pm. The carpet looks great. The house smells wonderful.

We will start moving some light weight things this weekend into the bedrooms. The captain has started the laminate floor in the living room. The kitchen and dining room need painting and then we should be ready to move in on the 27th. Lights- we don't have lights yet but we hope there is time to get some ceiling fans up before we move in. That would be nice.

Bad News: The captain and I seem to be getting colds. We don't feel too perky, with congestion, and a scratchy throat. Bummer! The captain says he will work tonight, but he came home at 9pm last night which is very early for him. Pray for quick healing for the both of us. So much to do and so little time.

First Cold

Piglet has his first cold. As you can see from the picture it really didn't dampen his spirits. The only sad part is that he is having trouble nursing. His nose is running so much and he is so congested that is difficult to nurse and breathe. He pops off and starts crying because he is so frustrated.

This boy loves to eat so this is very devastating for him. I have given him more solids and we have tried nursing more often since he can't take much at one time and he seems to be coping. I stayed home from church with him this morning and we just sat on the couch. He seemed to want a little extra attention. If that's the worst of it- I can handle that.

PS- Our carpet should be installed tomorrow. Yeah for that but please pray for me. I will be hanging out in a vacant house with 2 kids (one with a cold) with the workman all day. Pray that children will be tolerant of this and mommy will remain calm no matter what happens.

The family that renovates together, stays together

It's Saturday morning and the Test Pilot starts asking what are we doing that day. I tell him that we are going to his soccer game and then over to the new house to eat lunch with dad and to work there.

"Alright!" he exclaims. "Can we not have rest time and paint and scrape?" "Yes." says the mom. "Can we eat McDonald's on the floor?" "Yes." says the mom. Expressions of joy from the big boys. Who knew making them renovate a house and eating McDonald's on a dirty floor could make them so happy. The Captain did make us some tables and chairs using paint cans and some boxes of joint compound.

The boys, especially the Test Pilot, enjoy the work but only for awhile. The real reason they like being there is #1 being with dad and #2 they get to play their leapsters for hours. I usually keep them put up and we bring them out for special occasions. This has been a special occasion. There is nothing at the house for them so they bring their bag of games and we don't hear a peep out of them.

We are so thankful for those leapsters. Thanks to Aunt Carol who got us started with them. Thanks to Granny Jean for getting one for Crash. And thanks to all the grandparents who have bought them games. We would not have survived this renovation without them.

AWANA

Last night was the first night of our AWANA program at church. I am the Cubbies Director for the 2nd year. Although, since I didn't know what a director was supposed to do last year and I was out for half the year on maternity leave we will call this my first year.

I have been helping with Cubbies in different capacities for 5 years. At the end of each year, I say that I will not do this again next year due to the headaches (literally) that I get every night due to the stress and chaos. I know some chaos is to be expected with 3 and 4 year olds, but it was getting a little much for me.

This year our Commander, my boss, decided we are going to re-structure things and follow the AWANA format. We had loosely followed their lessons plan previously. I was hesitant but optimistic. I have prayed for this all summer and worked on it off and on all summer. (I am not that dedicated. It just takes me a long time to get things completed these days.)

Anyhow, last night was wonderful. All my leaders did their jobs beautifully. There was no chaos. I felt like the kids really learned something. I was able to start relationships with some of the parents that don't attend our church. (I learned that is parent of my job- to minister to the kids' families.) I had fun and I didn't come home with a headache. Praise God!

Now if I just get Crash to join the program. This was his first year in Cubbies. Let's just say he wanted to follow the chaos program. We will have to keep working on him. I think he literally has ants in his pants sometimes.
